RANGERS are leaning on Gordon Durie’s knowledge of his former side East Fife as they try to plot the New Bayview outfit’s downfall this weekend. Ex-Gers striker Durie was the manager of the Methil outfit for a spell last year before he had to step down from the role due to ill health. Prior to that, the 47-year-old was the assistant manager there to John Robertson and he spent two years there in total. Unsurprisingly, it was Durie who was dispatched to scout Willie Aitchison’s team as it recorded its first victory of the season last weekend with a 2-1 home win over Arbroath. Manager Ally McCoist told RangersTV: “Gordon knows the players at East Fife better than most of us here do. “His son Scott is obviously one of them and he spent time here when he was younger but he got sent off last weekend against Arbroath and will be suspended. “Gordon covered that game for us and we’ve had them watched a couple of other times as well recently. “We have been talking to Gordon a lot about the opposition and hopefully that gives us an added advantage.” Rangers met East Fife last season in the opening round of the League Cup and were handsome 4-0 winners in front of more than 38,000 fans. That was the start of a disappointing campaign for the Methil men, who had to come through the relegation play-offs to keep their place in what is now League One. They’ve reinforced since then, adding the likes of Christian Nade and Gary Naysmith to their squad over the summer. They were also linked with former Light Blues forward Nacho Novo at one point at one point and appear to have more clout than they did before. McCoist expects them to push Gers hard and added: “They’ve made changes and they’ve brought in new management and some new players. “They will have fresh ideas and a fresh approach. It’ll be tough for us against them because a lot of our opponents are very similar in League One this season. “Among them, there isn’t a real standout team. They are all of a good standard and they’ve all got qualities. They all try to get the ball down and to play football which is good.” //Stevie
