RANGERS caretaker manager Kenny McDowall says that the departure of Lewis Macleod will give other members of his squad an opportunity to step into his side. Macleod joined Brentford subject to international clearance on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee and with the Scotland international vacating his place in the team, McDowall believes it is the perfect chance for others to step up and make the jersey their own. He said, Lewis was one of our top players within the squad, its a loss for us but its also an opportunity for someone else to come into the team and stake a claim. We are a good side, it isnt just one player that makes our team and weve a lot of good players in our changing room. Were disappointed to lose Lewis, hes a fantastic footballer but we need to put it out of our minds and concentrate on the game against Dumbarton. The Gers side will look to put disappointment of defeat to Hibs behind them and first-foot into the new year with a solid performance and a good win and McDowall says that his side are unmoved in their belief that they will prevail at the end of the season. He said, Were absolutely confident that we can get promotion from this league. Thats the way that we have to be. At Rangers we are expected to win games, win cups and win leagues at this club and nothing will change in that aspect. The players know that too and know what they have to do, so we carry on fighting. Hibs was a disappointment for everyone at the club and McDowall concedes that the players know they must do better, We appreciate that it was a poor performance last week and not acceptable. We have done all of our usual pre-match preparation on the training pitch with video analysis. Weve looked over the match and everyone has taken their share of the blame. We dont just become a bad team over night and we just need to get back to winning ways, starting Saturday. Dumbarton travel to Ibrox tomorrow for the second time this season, with the Gers winning the first encounter and McDowall says that the players are looking forward to it: Its always great to play at Ibrox against anyone. Itll be a tough game against Dumbarton and we have to make sure that we are patient and that we are ready to get the result that we want.
