RANT ALERT! Labour, where my allegiance lay in the distant past - TopicsExpress

RANT ALERT! Labour, where my allegiance lay in the distant past have lost it. I mean here is Miliband on Sky news basically turning his back on his joint promise to Scotland (the promise that more than likely saved the union) hours after the referendum returned a no vote. Imagine the injustice those no voters will feel when they dont get what was promised. This is only the beginning of a long and difficult journey for the Scottish electorate, possibly for the whole of the UK. I see a rise in the nasty British Nationalism. The kind that we saw in George square last night. That British bulldog with its thick neck and gnashing teeth. Dont get me wrong Im not anti English, my mother is English and I am all too aware of what a charming and witty people the English can be and I particularly love the edge of the people in the industrial heart lands. I also love the softer leafy South where my mum comes from just near the New Forrest, You see I believe we should all connect with our identity and our culture but when those two things get mixed up in politics to any great extent it is a disaster. Most of us in Scotland saw this as a kind of civic Nationalism with not a shot fired and hardly a punch (well maybe that egg) being thrown, quite amazing to have been a part of actually! I am so proud of us all for that! Particularly in light of the press interference which of course is still going on. I love people and the cultures that carry us. The amazing thing is that, even though we were divided by the binary nature of the referendum, we did this thing together. Thats 84,6% of the Scottish population!! Could be that as a population we got it wrong, but what a terrible pressure was upon us. They came at us with carrots while they beat us from behind with big sticks. And now of course Miliband. the reptile who leads the party I once could hear no wrong of, comes out with There are more important things than devo max hours after he made that promise. Im off to write a pipe march called keir hardies farewell to the Labour Party
