RANT ALERT: Tomorrows Collage Friday post is about Interest Led Learning within a Classical framework. There have been some rumblings online this week and last about Classical Conversations being too restrictive and stifling for children. If you follow our homeschool (or know my crazy 9 year old son!) -- I dont think restrictive and stifling would be words I would use to describe what we do! It bothers me when people publicly criticize ANY homeschool program or method - and do so in a malicious or mean spirited manner. We have been unschoolers, Charlotte Mason - and eclectic -- all in a 5 year span -- it wasnt until two years ago that we settled into Classical education because I can see that working well for BOTH of my children for the duration. Obviously no ONE program or method is going to work for EVERYONE. We homeschool because we want to teach to our different children and help them realize their potential. We want to give them more than 6 hours a day looking at the same 4 walls and reading from dry textbooks. It serves NO PURPOSE to tear each other down - and it just made me so sad to watch a large homeschool outlet allow that kind of bashing and criticism. Come on moms -- we are BETTER than that. If you are somewhere online and people are being negative and critical - I would get out of that place FAST. You only want to be around people who LIFT OTHERS UP, not tear them down. So -- I love Classical Conversations unapologetically. But I love that I have so many readers who choose different ways to educate their children. I love that I get to know so many of you and LEARN so much from you. AND -- I hope you always find this a positive place to be. Just my two cents on this Thursday.
