RANT: I would love to see our county become the role model with behavioral health and drug addiction polices. I understand it takes about 50k to house someone for a year in jail. I know in our county, they pretty much catch and release and give these individuals a chance to make things right and if they dont, then they are then put into court ordered rehab. Would it not be nice to have a state of the art long term rehab for addiction offenses for the speed and opiates ? First offense, three months. Second offense, six months, third offense, one year. This should be funded by re-directing funds from the judicial system. There should be three different rehab models to choose from and their success rate of recovery and will determine their continued funding by the county and provide competition. One the 12 step model, another a faith based model. and the third geared more to self discovery, mediation, and relaxation, good eating and exercise (my preference). I believe that a rehab needs to be well structured with not much downtime and keep people busy and productive rather than sitting around. Maybe it could be self ran with the people in recovery assisting with cooking, cleaning, yard work, exercise programs, education classes and even entertainment. Book clubs, art classes, motivational speakers. What about working ranches and farms ? I dont know. I am thinking out loud and envisioning a society that is there to help this disease rather than shun it. People lose site of themselves and need that support to once again believe in themselves with a little help.
