RANT: Recently the Lewiston Police Department unveiled there new armored vehicle. A picture appeared in the Lewiston Sun Journal. Cries of a police state arise when something the public has no idea about jumps to conclusions. Well I have a suggestion, why don’t we take away all the advancements to Law Enforcement that have appeared over the past 35-40 years and let the Police deal with the new wave of criminals and their increased weaponry, their body armour their high tech communications. Let’s leave the police with 38 caliber revolvers with an extra speedloader with 6 more rounds max, let’s take away their communications and go back to the old call boxes. Second Chance vests, toss them, those are for sissies, take one in the chest for the "team", Nitrile gloves to protect from blood borne pathogens…naah, don’t need those either, just wipe the HEP and HIV laden blood off your hands onto your pants leg and wash with your kids clothes tonight when you get home. Having been personally involved in Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire services over the past 30 years I am totally dumfounded in just how high up in the clouds some people’s heads are. For Christ’s sake people, plant your feet on the ground. This is not a pretty world, and it IS NOT going to be a pretty future if you shackle those that serve, whether it’s LEOs, EMS or Fire. Next time your neighbor gets cranked on bathsalts and starts ripping the siding off your house to feed on your children, remember, call a plumber! Unless you have worked the streets, think before you speak ill of those that save your ass when you cry for help.
