☆☆☆RANT TIME☆☆☆ So, recently I played a show, and a few days before, my guitar player received a message from the drummer of one of the bands playing with us for that show. He asked if he could borrow my drums for the show. My first thought is no. If hes too lazy to load and set up his own gear, man up buttercup. Apparently the reason he was asking was because he had to sell his gear to get by. Ive never let anyone sit in on my kit I dont know. After some thought, considering we were playing out in Melbourne trying to build a fan base and get more gigs and figured this good gesture between a band out of town could help us in the future, I gave in. Under very clear guidelines that if he breaks or damages anything, HE WILL be buying a replacement. So when its time for their set, I start loading in and setting up my kit with the help of my band mates (thanks again guys) and the drummer who wants to borrow my kit just stands and watches. No offer to help. (Strike 1) Then once its set up, looks at it and says, beautiful kit! Sits down and grabs my sticks! Are you F@$&ING KIDDING ME?! Ok, so you dont have a kit, but you book shows anyway, show up, with your girl, and didnt even bring a pair of sticks!? SERIOUSLY? (Strike 2) His band plays their set, then just leaves. Doesnt even stick around to watch our set, atleast a couple songs. (Strike 3). Heres my deal. Dont book shows if you dont even have gear to play them. You gonna just book shows and hope you can borrow a kit everytime, a$$hole? And you wanna stand around like your someone important and not help, and keep the $10 in your pocket clutched too tight to AT LEAST by ONE pair of drumsticks?? Ruined my whole mood for the night. Just blown away by this. I know, could have been worse, he could have broken something, etc. But it was just really ridiculous.
