RANT WARNING....I really cant wait for Kate Kelly and her Ordain Women movement to fade into the background. I was raised Mormon and have remained active on my own accord and I have no desire to take on the added burden of Priesthood leadership. Actually the Mormon church has several auxiliaries within the church that are governed by women. One of the largest womens organizations in the world - if not the largest, called The Relief Society, is presided over by women at the local and world wide level. Although Bishops hold the Priesthood keys, RS Presidents work very much in tandem with the Bishops. There are other leadership positions in the church that are filled only by women. The presiding body over the childrens organization, The Primary, are all female. The presiding body over the Young Womens organization are all female. Ask any Bishop or other male Priesthood authority in the church and they will agree, the women not only complete the Priesthood, they sustain it. Besides - if there isnt a job in the church that only men are allowed to do, guess who will end up doing it? The WOMEN! Dear Sister Kelly - The women of the church have enough to do. For Heavens sake - dont make it easier on the men by enabling them. Additionally, this church operates under a volunteer, lay clergy. No one is in it for the money here. The paydays have no cash value - only spiritual reward. No one in their right mind, male or female, aspires to be a Mormon Bishop. The service demands on a Bishop can equal if not outweigh the demands of his regular job - his career - the job that actually pays his bills. Mormon Doctrine states the order of the Priesthood was set up by Jesus Christ himself so who is Kate Kelly - or any one with a big blow horn- to try and change it? One might as well fight for men to have equal rights to the marvelous and burdensome experience of growing a human life. I, for one am relieved I dont carry the burden of Priesthood responsibility. Maybe that is part of the relief in my womens society. If Kate Kelly wants it - she is free to go find it somewhere else.
