RAUF AREGBESOLA - LESSON LEARNT FROM OSUN STATE ELECTION! As polling stations shut their doors yesterday evening and counting of votes commenced in full, it was clear that the people of Osun made it clear to the world; that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is their CHOICE... This is a time to congratulate the winner but also a time to reflect on lesson learnt from this election saga! I know some of you would prefer that this CONGRATULATORY message to be void of all advisory information to a man with a clear mandate but this is the right time for this message! For the first time in many months, the true character of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was more visible in the last 90 days to the Election Day. He was more matured in his political campaign; closer to the people than ever and more importantly, made more friends across the political divide than any politicians in Nigeria history within 90 days... Even Ogbeni Raufs secret sworn political enemies admired his work and wish him to win; that was a good sign and the people of Osun gave him the mandate that he required. If we disregard the invisible ballot papers that found their way into the ballot boxes (laughs) in an attempt to choke Rauf Aregbesolas victory; we can say that at least over 100,000 Osunites did not vote for our governor (out of the 292,747 votes officially declared). Whilst, it is true that not everyone will vote for Ogbeni Rauf in a democratic election; from this very day onwards when the returning officer declared Osun state governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC has winner of Saturday’s governorship election; he is longer governor of APC but rather Governor of Osun State or what they call the State of Osun. As the 1st Citizen and father of everyone in the State of Osun, I am hoping that his Special Advisers and people close to him; would use his first official speech to congratulate his supporters, accommodate his opposite and build Osun. The governor needs to work more to ensure that he is an inclusive governor because there are many Nigerians including myself that would love to see him contributing more to Nigeria politics after his four year term either as a Senator or Minister; that would not become a reality if he allows the label place on his administrator to stick on him.... The governor should fulfil all his electoral promises and attract big companies to Osun State to give the youths better opportunity for well paid job. He (Ogbeni Rauf) has done it before and he can do it again. The governor should work more with Osunites in the diaspora and accommodate more Osunites professionals in his administration who are not Lagos based alone. There is no doubt that Ogbeni Rauf will deliver and he will take the State of Osun to the next level; he alone needs to work with all Osunites along the way... In the results announced early this morning by the returning officer who is also the VC Obafemi Awolowo University OAU Ile-Ife, Professor Bamitale Omole, Aregbesola won majority of the poll with 394,684 votes against Senator Iyiola Omisore of PDP who polled 292,747 votes.
