RAW TILL 4 AS A DIABETIC - Journal This is my 30 Day RT4 journal. All the science that i read shows that a high carb low fat diet can reverse type 2 diabetes and at least reduce insulin intake for type 1 diabetics. This journal will show how I as a type 2 diabetic can implement the RawTill4 program. The challenge we face is this: the initial uptake of high-carb food (in place of fat) spikes blood sugar. It does this due to existing fat in the body (blood lipids and intramyocellular lipids - fat stored in muscle cells) increasing insulin resistance so insulin cannot put the blood sugar in the cells. It takes a bit of courage to go through this stage of cutting fat and eating carbs because of the huge amount of brainwashing we have all been subjected too. But research suggest it takes about 4-12 weeks for the blood sugars to normalize when fat is removed from the diet. First time through I did it in 4 weeks. My first time round the blood sugar worried me but now I see this is really not such a big problem despite the initial fear because the traditional diabetic diet of high-fat/low-carb diet is an illusion of safety anyway. It only makes blood sugars immediately better (due to the removal of sugar) but then it makes it much worse (due to continued accumulation of fats in the blood and muscle) for life. So on that basis what is 12 weeks? The same applies to weight gain as it does to high blood sugar. Do I want to pay short term discomfort for long term permanent success or short term temporary success with long term suffering? The most important aspect of this process is compliance. I had some success earlier on but was unable to keep to the program due to an added complication of a history of binge eating and I forced it as a diet rather than building a lifestyle. I was successful and then slipped up due to “celebrating” with crap food because people who are on diets do that. I got cocky and started on the fats again and my blood sugar control was lost in about a week. In my experience any amount of animal fat or fried vegetable fat makes the blood sugar spike. Little transgressions like Corn Chips, Milk, Coffee, Eggs, Oils ect begin to bring back diabetes at the very next meal. If its short in to RT4 the spike will be immediate and if its a few weeks in you have some room but as I said one week of fat and insulin stopped working. If you eat any animal foods or go over 10% fat you will reinstate diabetes. In my opinion Diabetes is not an illness its just a reaction to foods we are not designed to eat. If you eat those foods you get a diabetic reaction. It is that simple. The question I was trying to solve was this: how could I eat enough food to prevent calorie restricting and avoid the urge to binge while geniunely doing RawTill4 but avoid getting continuously high blood sugars. This is the solution. RAW Till 4 (Tweeked For Diabetics) In the end I only had to make some minor changes to the Raw Till 4 solution because it is that good. 1) Eat my two fruit meals at times when I can exercise afterwards (walking, gentle cycling, yoga or stair walking is enough). I like walking or cycling as that is the easiest thing to do when full of fruit. 2) In the first few weeks increase the content of beans (black beans, kidney beans, mung beans and so on) in lieu of more intense carbohydrates i.e. rice. In the original program rice is a staple and beans are a side dish. Just switch that for a while. There is lots of research that show beans reduce blood sugars very well. But as I said once the fat is out, rice is on the menu. The reason for this is that if I get hungry at dinner because I slipped up on not enough fruit in the day then vegetables alone wont satisfy me. I will be hungry and at home and at night >>>>>binge. So if I feel hungry at my dinner meal I can eat 1000 cals of beans and it only moves my blood sugars up say 20% where the rice would move it 50%. (Please note if you want to be carbed up this is a good thing so non-diabetics ignore this. The reason why beans are a side dish is because the have less carbs! This advice is for diabetics only while they increase their Carbability.) 3) Up the greens via green smoothies and massive green salads a) The reason for these changes is because exercising after the fruit intake brings the blood sugars down in 30 mins to 45 mins of gentle exercise. But any amount will be great. I had my Blood Sugar go from 22mmol/l to 5.9mmol/l in a few hours. Minimizing how LONG the blood sugar stays high is key to getting well and losing weight. I cannot lose weight in the presence of high insulin. Period. And my body tissue cannot heal with highblood sugar. period. so this is the key. longer a longer periods of low blood sugar/insulin without fasting. b) The dinner meal has been altered to include beans instead of rice or even just vegetables so that I do not go to sleep with high blood sugars. The aim of the game is to keep the blood sugar spikes to those two fruit meals where I get most of my calories. c) The greens act as my snack even if they look like massive salads. Calorifically it’s always a snack. So if I have to delay my fruit meal because my exercise window is not available till late, I smash on greens and non-sweet veg. These are not calorie substitutes for bananas but will stop me going in to any kind of fasting/hunger mode (ie avoid binges). The key here is ABUDANCE at every meal. It took a while for freelee to get this into my head. ABUNDANCE AT EVERY MEAL. I will add research links as I go and more information too but this is enough to get my journal started… at last. The Plan Fruit 1000k Exercise 30 mins Greens 500k Fruit 1000k Exercise 30 mins Cooked Dinner: 500k veg and 500k Beans if hungry If blood sugar high, do some squats of push ups before bed. Even a little helps. Target 3000-3500 cals per day. That is a lot for a diabetic but my text day showed it will be possible. The aim is to have lower sugars between after dinner and before breakfast so my body can heal while sleeping. ********************************************************************************* CARBABILITY. It is your ability to process and store carbs adequately with no blood sugar spike or water retention (This is not a official science term I just like making up words). Freelee and Durianrider have built up a MASSIVE cabability. SO have others on this lifestyle. This will come to me with time. Mine is super low. Diabetics are instructed to eat 50g of carbs per meal. That’s about 2 small bananas. Durian rider is eating about 600-800g a day. DSICLAIMER: I am not a doctor or medical professional and cannot give advice as such.
