RB ‘Standing Tall’ After High Court Ruling Former Republican President Rupiah Banda has welcomed the Lusaka High Court judgment that has confirmed him as the presidential candidate of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), and upholding the suspension of ousted party leader Nevers Mumba. Judge Chalwe Mchenga this morning dismissed Nevers Mumba’s injunction against President Banda with costs and ruled that the former President is the rightful person to fly the MMD flag in the January, 20 elections. President Banda said that he was happy that the court has ruled in his favour and also that it gives him the all clear to revert to his vigorous campaign programme. “I am standing tall and very happy that is my feeling,” President Banda told journalists at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. President Banda was elected by the MMD national executive committee to represent the party in the January, 20 elections. The decision angered party president Nevers Mumba who has been campaigning for the top job on the MMD brand. Mumba will have to find another platform to contest the polls with less than 10 days before nomination. While Mumba has the right of appeal to the Supreme Court the time left before nominations may jeopardize his hope of contesting the election. President Banda had put his campaigns on hold in respect of the court ruling and is expected to revert to his campaign plan. zambiareports/2014/12/10/rb-standing-tall-high-court-ruling/
