#RBI #official convicted; sentenced to 2 years RI A CBI court here today convicted a Reserve Bank of India official on charges of misusing his official power and sentenced him to two years rigorous imprisonment. Based on an allegation that they abused their official position and had exchanged in full the deliberately cut currency notes prepared fraudulently in Chennai branch of RBI, CBI had filed a case against three persons -- RBI Asst Treasurers Kumar Deshraj, K Sakthikumar and Vijay Kumar Agarwal. Their act has caused a wrongful loss of Rs 33,81,500 to Reserve Bank of India, it said. A charge sheet was filed against them under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Since Sakthikumar and Agarwal died during the course of the trial, the charges against them were abated. After completion of trial, XI Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases S Sengottaiyan convicted Deshraj and sentenced him to two years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.
