RC Cola-Air Force ticks pesky Mane ‘n Tail The RC Cola-Air Force Raiders fended off a 38-point performance from Kristy Jaeckel to win in four sets, 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 25-22, in the women’s division of the 2014 Philippine SuperLiga Grand Prix presented by Asics on November 7 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay. It took everything from the Raiders to close out their first round campaign with their third win. They even had to endure a late match adjustment by coach Francis Vicente that had setter Kaylee Manns doing kills. Tied at 22-all in the final set, Maika Ortiz gave her team the lead for good as Manns’ attack from the opposite side went out to send the contest into match point. Emily Brown then closed it out with a point off the block. Brown showed the way for the Airwomen with 20 points as fellow reinforcement Bonita Wise finished with 14. Iari Yongco had 13 markers. Rhea Dimaculangan matched Manns’ proficiency in setting her team’s offense with 48 excellent sets on 115 attempts. As for Manns, she had 44 excellent sets on 106 tries and 12 points, a third of them coming from blocks and service aces. Rossan Fajardo accounted for nine attack points. The Raiders had nine service aces to Mane ‘n Tail’s six as they also scored 34 points off MNT’s errors. RC Cola-Air Force will go up against Generika on November 14, while MNT will play the Lifesavers two days from now. Mane ‘n Tail fell to 1-3. (JP Abcede)
