RCMP Enhanced - Aboriginal Police Studies Programs The RCMP is currently working in partnership with a variety of Government and Community partners to promote an RCMP enhanced Aboriginal Police Studies Program created for Aboriginal peoples and delivered by participating secondary schools across Canada. The program enhancements were developed in cooperation with the RCMP’s Training Program Support & Evaluation Unit and Assiniboine Community College. The program is aligned with the RCMP cadet selection requirements and training standards. The goal of the course is to assist with the success of Aboriginal candidates throughout the RCMP police officer application process following successful graduation of the program. About the program The program is 32 weeks long. Students are expected to complete 14 different academic courses that center on the Problem-Based Learning Model, whereby students conduct individual research and participate in group discussions using role-play and real-life scenarios. Basic Requirements to apply •Be minimum of 18 years of age, •Be of First Nation, Métis or Inuit descent, •Be a Canadian citizen, •Be of good character, •Be in good physical condition, •Be able to pass a hearing and vision test, •Be able to pass an enhanced reliability security check, •Possess a Canadian Secondary School Diploma (High school) diploma or equivalent (upgrading to acquire an equivalent prior to starting is available). For individuals who have not received a Canadian secondary school diploma, there is an option to obtain a General Education Development (GED) certificate before entering the enhanced Aboriginal Police Studies Program which takes three (3) months to complete.
