#RDX CITC denies WhatsApp barring claim. Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), the IT and telecom regulatory authority in the kingdom, has denied reports that WhatsApp will be blocked before the holy month, reported Arab News. CITC had blocked Viber, the instant messaging and VoIP application earlier this month because it did not comply with the regulatory requirements of the country. CITC said it would take appropriate action against any application including Skype and WhatsApp that fails to meet the regulatory rules. Earlier this month, when the news of blocking WhatsApp was first reported, Saudi nationals and expats expressed equal disappointment because such applications are a vital communication bridge between family members residing within and outside the kingdom.
