RE: ATWA(ABUJA BRANCH) FUND- RAISING/LAUNCHING OF N150MILLION BUILDING FUND FOR AFIKPO HOUSE IN ABUJA! It would be recalled that on Saturday 13th September, 2014, Ehugbo people in Abuja organised a fund-raising ceremony under the aegies of the Afikpo Town Welfare Association, ATWA, for purposes building Afikpo House in the Federal Capital Territory to ease accommodation difficulties of Afikpo people in Abuja and save the money visitors from Afikpo expend on hotel accommodation, as well as generate revenue for ATWA in particular and Afikpo in general. Since the news of the event was published on my wall and Afikpo People page, accolades and knocks have been pouring in from comments of my friends and page members like a tsunami. In as much as we are entitled to our opinion as citizens, exercising our freedom of expression as the law demands, irascible commentators ought to know their limits irrespective of their degree of aversion to any subject matter of discourse. This is because indecent utterances, made in public, portray us as barbaric, uncouth and uncultured. Yes, some people have the right to oppose the idea of building Afikpo House in Abuja. But that right does not include insults, invectives, peevish and trunculent tirades, which cast a slur on our credibility as a people. Such outrageous slurs only expose us to the outside world as barbarians. I want to say that as one, who represented his Boss at the occasion, I personally take serious exception to the gutter language used by some commentators, who took a swipe at ATWA, Abuja Branch on Afikpo People page, considering the fact that this was a gathering of some of our illustrious greats and their friends from other states and works of life, who were there to lend their support to our cause. I believe that before ATWA, Abuja Branch zeroed in on erecting the edifice, there must have been arguments and counter-arguments before superior arguments prevailed because the ATWA members, who constitute the Abuja Branch are not daft. The Members of the Fund Raising Committee headed by Mark Abani are not also daft. So, I now wonder why some commentators will begin to throw tantrums at them and the rest of us, who attended the occasion. Reading these caustic comments, you will agree with me that the tantrums are legion, but the most annoying and stone aged is this one by Inya Samuel: Big fools. Oka mma nezi (see Afikpo People page on the above subject matter). Nothing can be more indicative than an absolute lack of home training on the part of this commentator, Inya Samuel. Ordinarily, I would have elected to maintain studied silence, but when I realised that as Nde Ehugbo, we are educated people and as such, need to censor our public utterances, especially on a Social Media like this, I decided otherwise. It is however laughable that these critics do not belong to any Branch of ATWA anywhere in the world. They are therefore satisfied, sitting in limbo like a bird and kicking against ATWA decisions and pouring abuses on people when they could have made their positions known in ATWA Delegates Conferences or Conventions as a legal fora. I wish to reiterate that the proposed Afikpo House is aimed at alleviating accommodation problems of Afikpo people in Abuja, serve as free lodging for Afikpo people on a visit to Abuja because of the Shylock hotel bills in the FCT, as well as a revenue generating venture. As civilised people, we should be decent in our utterances and constructive in our criticisms. Unu jookwa!
