RE: An OU Celebrity in Our Midst Dear OU Fans, I was wearing an OU T-shirt at Costco the other day when this nice lady tapped me on the shoulder and introduced herself as a former OU student. Turns out she is also something of a celeb to OU football fans. Anne Baker lives in Waimea and used to attend OU and lived in Norman. Nothing exciting in that perhaps except that she was also following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Dewey Snorter Luster, who played football at OU from 1917-1920 as a defensive back and was captain of the team in 1920 that had an undefeated season. More prominent is the fact that he was head football coach of the Sooners from 1941-1945. Football was a way of life in their house. I almost fainted. She explained to me why he was called Snorter because he couldnt breathe properly with his mouthpiece. She told me about the familys roots in Tahlequah, that she was born at St. Johns in Tulsa, and many other tidbits too numerous to list. Snorter was also Norman H.S. coach to Bill Jennings who played at OU and became head coach of the Cornhuskers from 1957-1961. It was a treat for me to meet Anne and be able to hear from Snorters granddaughter about an OU football legend. If youll Google Dewey Luster, LOTS of fun, fan-facts will pop up. If you see Anne around, so up and introduce yourself...unless you are wearing an OU shirt and then she is likely to introduce herself first. She loves OU and her heritage. So should you! BOOMER.
