RE: DEPORTATION OF SOME IGBO EXTRACTION FROM LAGOS STATE BY LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR, RAJI FASHOLA AND FEMI FANI-KAYODE’S BITTER TRUTH ABOUT IGBO. Primarily my apology to all FB friends for not have put up comment on this issue when it came to fore. I will say authoritatively that I have not really gloss over this issue even when my good friend Ademola Ononuga made a post on it. My reasons apart from time constraints to update my page then, was that I saw it as an issues for the uncivilized who are still groping in the dark age of tribalism in the 21st century. Femi Fani-Kayode on “Bitter Truth About Igbo” unfortunately caught me in the web when I saw a post. Femi Fani-Kayode is one man I love to read his comments whenever I come across one, but I want to say that I am highly disappointed that he could condescend so low to indulge in a defaming issues that has to do with cheap discriminations and tribalism. I will want to believe that he was not referring to the Igbos as a tribe by his caption “Bitter Truth About Igbo”. Be it as it may, I want to concord that the Yoruba’s own Lagos without controversy. But should this be the focus of any responsible Nigerian in the face of damnable perversions cumbering Nigeria and Nigerians? Should any responsible person in this computer age when nations are pre-occupied on how to explore the outer space and other planets be thinking of owing a state in a nation that has no future for her citizens? Little wonders it is said that the taste of pudding is in the eating. Were it not for this issue who would have believe that Femi Fani-Kayode could be so primitive as it were. In Igbo land there is this saying “Somebody owns the owner of the land”. This made me to go to my archives to search out a post I made so time ago, perhaps this may bring to an end to who owns where and where in Nigeria. WHICH IS A REAL NIGERIAN? I seldom hear people ask this panoptic question; rather, we are more concerned to champion hypocritical crusade to unify Nigeria, which ridiculously appeared to be a mirage and mere chasing of shadows. And, if we fail to sincerely address this issue on, ‘which a real Nigerian is’, we shall continue to grope in obscured hope in the light of truth and obvious realities. If indeed we are truly one, our attitude, dispositions towards one another does not depict reality. We should have been something different from the prevailing lugubrious situation bedeviling our coexistence. There is unprecedented man’s inglorious activities against fellow man – raging corruption, kidnapping, ritual killings, pogrom, religious crises and ethnicity divergence. These constitute great dissensions to unity and development. It is obsolete, highly condemnable, and must be jettison into the history bin of oblivion. Now the question; which is a real Nigerian? Naturally, the country is made up of three major ethnic groups – Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. Therefore, any attempt to define ‘which is the real Nigerian’, without these three ethnic groups in perspective, would amount to fiasco, an ancient folk stories and sheer display of ignorance. However, in trying to get cracking on this issue, I will approach it from the angle of social life, and marriage inclusive. Coincidentally, I hail from the eastern divide of the country, because I am propounding this, were it possible to deny my country home, I will do for the sake of being objective. Nevertheless, in fairness, with every sense of responsibility, I will play neutrality in doing justice on this issue. To determine which is the real Nigerian, I will ask some salient questions and give my responses in percentage scorings amongst the three impregnable ethnic groups. (1) MARRIAGE. Which of the three groups marries liberally from any part of the country without putting into consideration, tribe, religion, and cultural differences? Hausa 10%, Igbo 60%, Yoruba 30%. (2) RELIGION. Which ethnic group can freely enter any worship center – Church and Mosque to felicitate with a friend without putting religious bigotry into consideration? Hausa (elite) 5%, Igbo 60%, Yoruba 35%, (3) MUSIC. Which ethnic group plays and dances to all Nigerian music even in the interior villages? Hausa 0%, Igbo 98%, Yoruba 2%. (4) FOOD. Which ethnic group can eat all Nigerian dishes without feeling irritated? Hausa 30%, Igbo 50%, Yoruba 20%. (5) DWELLERSHIP. Which of the ethnic group dwells freely in all the states of the country without fear of intimidation? Hausa 40%, Igbo 50%, Yoruba 10%. (6) INVESTMENT. Which ethnic group invests liberally across the states of the country without discrimination? Hausa 0%, Igbo 99%, Yoruba 1%. With these questionnaires, I will boldly say without apology, that, the Igbo’s are the real Nigerian. However, this is not a calumny, it is not meant to project supremacy, or brew any form of hostility. I stand to be corrected.
