We appreciate the time you have taken to write to us. We want to assure you that government and the Ministry of Education are committed to improving the public education system for the benefit of students, teachers and all British Columbians. We recognize how important having a strong public education system is to not only students, but for the future of our province. For your convenience, we have included a link below to our comprehensive website outlining the BC Education Plan, as well as a link to the Ministry of Education’s Service Plan: bcedplan.ca/ bcbudget.gov.bc.ca/2014/sp/pdf/ministry/educ.pdf We know all parties involved in the current contract negotiations do not want the pattern of the last 30 years continuing: strikes, escalation of job action and disruption. All sides need to work together to get to a long-term agreement because we believe this is key to establishing longer term stability in our education system. We’re committed to working to reach a settlement that is fair to teachers and to the other public sector unions who have already negotiated agreements. Both sides will have ideas on how this can be accomplished and the best place for them to be presented is at the negotiating table. If you are interested in learning more about what government is doing to continue to support public education, as well as well as review the latest bargaining updates, please see the following website: newsroom.gov.bc.ca/ministries/education/ Again, thank you for writing. We do hope you find this response helpful.
