RE: NYRA, This is the second go around of horses breaking down on the inner track; I understand perfectly healthy horses can take a bad step BUT 1. I truly have no idea who or what NYRA is or who is in charge, last I saw a highly paid executive with no racing knowledge left- 2. Last I saw, Dr. Palmer came in as supervisor, again paid a fortune and I have not heard a word from him 3. All the money spent on months of an investigation last time this happened, last I heard , these initiatives are not being followed. 4. I have been asked why did I get out of NY? In 15 years in racing, I have never seen vet bills like I received in NY, they were, at times, higher than the training- it seemed like everything but the kitchen sink was used. It was a mentality unlike anything i have seen in racing. This is not to say what trainers or that they all follow these extremes. 5. Horses were used as monopoly pieces due to the purse money, by some trainers there, horses were commodoities. 6. There was an assistant state vet that blew the whistle on the whole state vet and the process, I believe she was fired 7. It also seems like the track there due to the worse weather we have seen is just not safe when the weather gets bad I am not there, do not race there, do not mean to attack the really good people that are there, but really- WHO IS IN CHARGE? and based on meeting finally happening Sat, do they have the authority to do something????? Sadly, as I will preach forever, we simply need a national czar or leader to fix the many problems in racing.
