REACTING TO A CERTAIN GROUP OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENT - TopicsExpress

REACTING TO A CERTAIN GROUP OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENT (NUGS) LEADERSHIP TO DEMONSTRATE AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT In the absence of good evil will strive, this make it necessary for TEIN KNUST to bring to the general public especially our colleague student the “Hard Record Facts ” . The selective and politically embedded and motivated concerns raised by a certain group of the Union’s leadership convey a lot of mischief and derogatory remarks against the government that is still hooked up to the better Ghana agenda without the slightest hesitation and doubt. We wholeheartedly want to set the records straight by enlightening the Ghanaian citizenry especially to our fellow students to attach no cue of eminence to those politically assertive sentiments. For clarity and prudence in a government like the NDC government before and today shrouded with the legacy and hallmark of “government for all earmarked as a listening government too”, we will analytically bring to bear the mediocrity surrounding every nook and cranny of the issues or concerns raised by this group of NUGS leadership in their supposed fury over government’s initiatives and contributions to the falling standards of the educational sector of Ghana. In the wake of the government’s priority in education captured in its manifesto, we members of NUGS believe that economic transformation through education is a process as the government is committed to the establishment of the 200 community SHS, the cutting of sod of the first 50 community SHS is still on cause. The recent loan approved by Parliament for the construction of 23 new SHS, expansion of 50 more SHS and as well as upgrading of 75 SHS to increase intake of students, and a full scholarship to 10,400 students in deprived areas to create an enabling environment, enhance quality and affordable education for all. Conversion of Polytechnics into Technical Universities, we all know of the committee setup by H. E. President to help in the successful conversion of these TEN Polytechnics in to Technical Universities. And the establishment of ten (10) new Colleges of Education in the country is still in full force and operation to be realized. We can confirm authoritatively that the pilot educational plan will be achieved. We entreat all to remain confident in the NDC government to accomplish that promise in full flight. Another backdoor revelation of the NUGS President and his press secretary intended demo indicated was the alarming provocations over government’s failure to release grants and subventions to schools some time ago. This according them led to the delay of students in the three northern regions at the expense of academia. We blatantly debunk this claim as “lies with little or no truth “ Though, some part of the three Northern Regions suffered the hazards of this development, nonetheless it is attributed to the thorough study of most reports glaring to government chest on some irregularities and complaints of food quality to merit the grants given for that initiative. We can attest to the following facts that about seventy (70) percent of the schools in those areas resumed before the advent of the unfortunate saga. Goree SHS, Yendi SHS, Wa SHS among lots of them were in session and hence falsify the claim that students were at home for that reason. We call on this group of NUGS leadership to be weary of the venom they are putting into the public domain. By that, we entreat the need for circumspection and sympathetic introspection before exploding with this kind of intended demonstration to register your so call falling standards in relative to the educational sector. If we must complain or vent our vexation and wrath on government, it must be devoid of deceitful tendencies, for the future of this country is in the bosom of the students today and generations yet unborn. Setting the records straight on another development pursuant to the concerns raised by true NUGS on the refusal or failure of government to reconstitute the education or youth or students related boards, we may sound not taking cognizance of the concerns or welfare of the Ghanaian students as students too. No matter the ups and downs, government will reconstitute those boards in the nick of time. However, the position of these individuals on this matter does not hold any fortitude which must be characteristic of such a wholly representative union. We therefore want to state categorically that government is not driven by any parochial interest in this issue and remain vigilant and responsive to reconstituting the board as expressed already. Concomitant to that, the universal laws of our mother land Ghana preach equality and digestively equal share of the national cake. Relative to this, the withdrawal of Nursing and Teacher training allowances by the government has received public bashing and nagging deemed to be from the opposition largest party in Ghana (NPP/Yaamons). As if it was another world war for them and some few party faithful only to have the same music playing by the NUGS President now. The government has said time and before without number that the withdrawal of these allowances had ulterior motives for the good of all tertiary students of which NUGS is no exception. Every tertiary institution in Ghana is supposed to enjoy some form of remuneration (allowances) of its status for students which over the years was beneficial to Teacher and Nursing trainees alike. Balancing the formula to allow for an expanded intake of qualified student into any tertiary institution called for government’s recent decision to replace the allowances with students loan enjoyed in all tertiary institutions. This had led to over 100% increment in the intakes of qualified applicants, who wouldn’t have been in schools. To our utter dismay, NUGS as a student front has never paused to ask of the increase in the intake of students into tertiary institutions especially those affected areas by the change. Are the Universities or other tertiary institutions redundant or rejected to merit those allowances to the dearest heart of government as the others enjoyed? Relative to this question, this current NUGS leadership cannot boast of representing the universal Interests of Ghana students. We by this standard of analogy ascribe the comments of NUGS on this issue as an intuition that requires no attention. Hence, government must be commended for that step to promoting educational equality at all levels in Ghana. . We believe the good people of Ghana preferably the Ghanaian students are conversant with happenings in the country and the strength and inertia with which government is pursuing the interest and aspirations of this country to combat the disturbing situation of all Ghanaians. Literary, when you blow your whistle as a player before the referee at the helm of affairs in an attempt to skew decisions to your favour, you are certainly seeking to hear the score line outside the pitch. This is what NUGS is exactly doing or has done but the government will not be diverted in focus and attention with the assurance to all Ghanaian students that the NDC government has not taken any decision of that nature. Therefore, the NUGS’ President Position on this matter should be discarded and rendered fictitious. Wrapping up this press release without reacting to the claim of the NUGS President on several counts of the corruption and economic mismanagement under this government will be a political dishonesty of the twenty first (21st) century. We agree that this is a mind bobbling and dicey issue which needs real facts on the grounds to able to affirm those allegations made. Let’s remember the substance of any cynical idea must not fail to ponder over what it will portray which describes precisely the actions of the NUGS President in this respect. SADA in our opinion has had burning issues like that of GYEEDA, SUBA, MEDIA FUND, ISOFOTON, WATERVILLE and CONTRUCTION PIONEERS (CP) linked to corruption scandals but that does not make the government a corrupt one. The government has made public and open declarations with commitments to fighting corruption. As part of that bold step, committees were set up to investigate all allegations pertaining to them with recommendations made especially with SUBA and GYEEDA among them. However we shouldn’t forget that we leave in a country that for the first time is run by the rule of law, we are not in the jungle. Though, very cumbersome in outlook as some may say, but it is worth recommending the government for trying hard to restore hope in the corruption scandals. All instances labeled by the NUGS President cant be corruption non a total guarantee of incompetence or economic mismanagement as seen in that press release by the NUGS President. However, the failure of the NUGS president to acknowledge some unprecedented achievements chalked by the NDC government in the area of education is a disservice done to the Ghanaian by this current NUGS leadership. This government achievements in education can not be overlook, which includes the establishment of two new Universities namely the University of Health and allied Sciences at Ho and the University of Energy and Natural Resource at Sunyani, the sixty thousand (60,000) and fifty thousand (50,000) laptops that were distributed to basic Schools and basic school teachers respectively. One hundred and thirty two Million (132, 000,000) exercise books that were distributed to millions of Ghanaians students since 2009 and as of last year 2013 alone (170,000) one hundred and seventy thousand pupils were supplied with free uniforms whiles ten thousand (10,000) free uniforms to be distributed this year, just to mention a few. Indeed the government is worth commendable, as the NDC government is truly proofing to being a social democrat. In conclusion, we want to stress one more time without any phenomenal regret and equivocation that certain group of NUGS which is supposed to be as a representative body of all Ghanaian students in their press conference which is peddling their intended demonstration against the government, is a polluted air with mischief, parochialism and barbaric information tantamount to failure in leadership. It was an intelligent way of spewing false propaganda to gain public attention at the expense of the good exploits and desires of government for Ghana and the educational sector in connection today. We hereby entreat that issues of public interests and attention must be handled or expressed with the utmost circumspection it deserves in order to exterminate a repeated blunder of NUGS about government. The NUGS President and his press secretary should refrain from using their office for their personal gains, must however apologize to government and also allow their intended demo to sink off their minds to redeem their image into limelight.
