READ, STUDY AND KEEP IN YOUR HEART Luke 1:3-4 ‘it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.’ My precious friends in Christ, Luke commences the gospel he writes by telling that he is writing a detailed account of the events of the life of our Lord Jesus so that Theophilus may read it for himself and be blessed. Yes my precious friends it is good to listen to sermons, it is good to read books about the faith and it is good to listen to others preach. But precious friends, there is no substitute for you first hand taking the Word of God into your own hands and reading it, studying it and retaining those words in your heart. Romans 1:16 says ‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation.’ Hebrews 4:12 says ‘For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword.’ Psalm 119:97-100 says ‘Oh how I love Your law! It is my meditation (study and reflect) all the day. You through Your commandments make me wiser than any enemies; for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts.’ Yes my precious friends when you read, study and keep in your heart the Word of God you receive power and wisdom which help you overcome all things in life. The Word of God is life giving and is able to empower you to walk in victory daily. Jesus said in John 6:63 ‘The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.’ So my beloved friends you on your own must read and study the Word. The Holy Spirit who is in you will help you understand what you read and He will teach you and He will daily give you a new revelation from the Word of God which will bring new life to you. So from today make it a point to spend quality time reading and studying the Word. When I say study, after reading ask yourselves questions such as what does this verse tell me about the Lord, what is it telling me about myself, what areas must I change in my life, what does this verse say to me. Ask yourself simple questions like that and write the answers in a book. Yes like that the Holy Spirit will start speaking to you and teaching you things that will truly transform your personal life and make you a victorious person daily. God bless you – Romesh Daniels.
