READ THE SAD REALITY A MUST READ BY Mark Kphillips: These thoughts - TopicsExpress

READ THE SAD REALITY A MUST READ BY Mark Kphillips: These thoughts are mine and mine alone. I usually visit Corpus Christi Animal Care Services a couple of times each week and each time I go, there are more and more and more dogs and puppies than can be counted in ones mind. I feel for every one of them and I HATE the position they have been put in by the human race. Mondays kill list has over 20 dogs on it. Many will not make it out alive; its a fact. As beautiful as Focus on Furever can make each dog or cat, there are simply not enough homes, rescues, fosters, or places outside of Corpus Christi or Texas for them all to go. On Monday, some will be killed because they are inconvenient, too much work, too costly, the wrong color, breed, size, age, type, too young, too old and the list of excuses goes on and on. Some animals there are truly are suffering, either physically or emotionally and for them death is the only option. I dont blame Animal Care Services. I blame the human race for the wagging tails and hopeful looks behind a chain link fence. When I look at the male dogs, I see that they are intact and have never been neutered. When I look at the females, I see that their nipples have fed so many pups that you have to ask if they have outlived their usefulness as a paycheck for a greedy dog breeder. “In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats. In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs (HSUS Pet Overpopulation Estimates 1).” The only true remedy to not looking at the sad faces behind wire cages is to spay and neuter but what about the people who cant afford to spay and neuter? I completely understand that they simply can’t afford to have their pet spayed or neutered but I also know that there are those there who feel they can make money by having a kitten or puppy mill. If a family or individual can not afford to have their cat or dog spayed and the animal has a litter one might try to sell them. If that doesn’t work they may try to give them away to someone. Anyone who may not be able to afford the expenses of a pet may often, as last resort, abandon the animals only to have the survivors contribute to pet overpopulation. Somehow, we must help them find a way to spay and neuter these animals before their offspring are killed at Animal Care Services. I truly do care for the welfare of these animals and the unfortunate situations they are in. As a community, we all must work together to get this problem under control. The time for finger pointing and back-biting has long since passed and it is time that the entire community get on board with the message that must be spread day after day after day.
