READ THE WHOLE THING Hi All, With the remnants of today’s precipitation coating the roads throughout CT, we thought we would give our outlook for possible delays tomorrow. The temperature will remain above freezing until midnight when it will drop just below the freezing threshold. Thereafter, the temperature will continue fall to the MID TEENS by 9 a.m. We can also expect light snow before midnight that really shouldnt amount to much. A gentle breeze from the northwest will pick up to a more moderate breeze bringing continental polar air from Canada over our area. Consequently, the wind chill will drop to a low of ZERO by 10 a.m. This being said, we will also experience a steady stream of air from the Texas region that will graze over the upper Gulf. The result is an interesting combination of cold/dry, hot/dry, and warm/moist air. Because the cold/dry stream is simply closer, the air humidity will drop, but remain high, throughout early Tuesday morning, which is essential to the rate of evaporation. The dew point will steadily drop to single digits by 7 a.m. The National Weather Service has issued a HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK and a SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT for the southern CT area, which entails “ANY RESIDUAL WATER REMAINING ON UNTREATED SURFACES WILL REFREEZE RESULTING IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS.” Prediction: From the attached image of forecasted ice accumulation at 1 a.m., the NWS forecasts MINIMAL ice accumulation. Even though the temperatures will continue to drop, the moisture COULD begin to evaporate. This, in addition with the assumption of SUFFICIENT SALTING, lends us to lean towards the prediction that the main roads will be fine tomorrow morning. This being said, the backroads of northern Ridgefield, unsalted sidewalks, and unsalted driveways could easily accumulate a thin sheet of ice. We predict a 60% for a FULL DAY with the contingency that all main roads will be salted. ***This said however, DON’T be surprised to wake to a 2 HOUR DELAY tomorrow because there could be parts of Ridgefield with poor driving conditions, especially for early morning commuters from northern CT (Danbury/Bethel/Redding).*** - R.H.S.W.S.
