READ THIS: Although I didnt want to comment on this subject, I will. My daughter won Freshman Homecoming two years ago and we were told, it did cause an issue with another girl and parent. We never confronted the girl or parent, but thought it was super childish. Yes there was an issue. NOW, Bristow is considering to end the traditional Homecoming as early as next year. It just so happens, that next year, my daughter will be a Senior. Shes done some wonderful things in only 16 years like...being a State Champion Cheerleader, currently Co-Captain of the BHS Squad and filming 2 Feature Films (Yes at only 16 years old). Weve taught our kids that there is a HUGE LIFE outside of Bristow. So, after speaking with my daughter and wife, weve come to the conclusion that whatever happens...will happen. It sucks that it has to happen in her Senior year, but we know its a possibility. People need to realize, life shouldnt be a popularity contest and bullying another kid because they were chosen is not the answer. Do the kids and parents bully? ABSOLUTELY!!! Parents need to teach their kids how to fail and teachers need to teach the kids that not everyone wins 1st place and that its ok to lose. What happens in High School doesnt necessarily set the stage for life. We try so hard to make everyone happy....EVERYONE GETS A TROPHY (Tabouleh Fest, Pagents, etc.)! But in all honesty, thats not life...quit kidding yourself. Does this cause issues with kids at school or parents or hard feelings? Sure it does, but its been done for YEARS. Its a tough battle either way....but is it the best decision? Only time and trials will tell.
