READ THIS !!! Another case study from NC on what happens when the Tea Party lowers, taxes. The 99% get screwed again. When the TP took over NC government, they reformed, taxes. They lowered taxes for everyone, but lowered them by far more for corporations and the wealthy than they did for the middle-class and working poor. Now, to add insult injury, is this little tidbit... courtesy of the GOP-heavy NC Utilities Commission. Private utilities income tax rates were lowered from 6.9% to 5%. Utilities get to pass their income taxes onto their customers. So youd think that wed now pay 5%.... NOPE. The commission, somehow, decided that even though the utilities pay 5% they can still charge customers a 6.9% pass-through. Between electric, water and sewer, this is estimated to result in overcharges of $21 million. Further injurious to we the people... tax reform INCREASED the sales tax that customers pay from 3% to 7%. Of course, businesses get to write their taxes off of their income, so this doesnt effect them much on an annual basis.
