READ THIS: if you have had multiple injuries (keep on tearing the hammie/spraining the ankle) or if youre just always feeling sore and restricted. A question we have been asked a lot since we started using our new FAKTR tools. What is scar tissue?? Ill try and keep the answer concise. Scar tissue is the product of poorly integrated collagen formation in and around a healing tissue (muscle, skin, organ etc) Very basic premise - the function of a cell is largely dependent on its environment. The irritation and trauma from repetitive use or increased demand (in a sporting sense) causes inflammation. That inflammation settles, generally taking 24-72 hours. Hence the wonderful DOMS onset is in that period as we now can feel our muscles recovering. That inflammation settling turns into collagen. That collagen SHOULD start to function the same way as muscle and hence becomes muscle and thats how we grow/build/become jacked. In the event the collagen settles in a dysfunctional area that in day to day life we use improperly (ITB/adductors) we then start build layers upon layers of poorly integrated collagen - this is SCAR TISSUE. So, if you have scar tissue in an area, you didnt build it yesterday. So dont expect to break it down tomorrow!!!! We have found that a combination of using Active Release Technique (ART), dry needling and the FAKTR tool has been the most effective way to address the build up of scar tissue. Thats a start.. The next step is to use that muscle correctly so that you can help integrate that NEW collagen correctly into the muscle so that it eventually becomes muscle. Dont waste your time with a therapist who doesnt physically work the muscle! functionalsofttissue/ dryneedling.au/what-is-dry-needling/ activerelease/
