READ the full story from SPENCER, MARIA and SAM: The Queen Scout Award is the highest award anyone in Scouting can achieve. In order to attain this award we were required to complete the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award (which we completed last year at L6FC), and then additional activities. We are the first Explorer Scouts from Lowestoft to ever achieve this award. One of the rewards for completion of this formidable challenge is the opportunity to attend the St Georges Day Parade of Queen Scouts and the National Scout Service at Windsor Castle. This privilege has been honoured for the Scout Association for nearly 80 years as a gift from HRH the Queen. With the only organisations allowed to parade within the grounds being the Coldstream Guards and the Scout Association. We spent the morning of the Sunday in Victoria Barracks being taught to march in our sections. This was followed by a short break before meeting back at the Royal Mews to form up the Parade. The parade was headed by the Marching Band of the Coldstream Guards, we paraded through the St Georges Gate into the Castle where we formed up for review in the Quadrangle. The review was carried out by the Queens Representative, and this year we were graced with the presence of HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent accompanied by the Chief Scout; Bear Grylls. After the review, we informally marched a lap of the Quadrangle waving at the gathered guests and paraded through the Lower Ward to the St Georges Chapel. We had a short inspiring service, then left the Chapel through the Quire (The Knights of the Order of the Garter have their banners hanging in here) then formed up again in front of the Chapel where we were addressed by Bear Grylls. This was followed by parading back through the Lower Ward (this time headed by the Scout Band), out of Henry VIII Gate and back to the Mews. Here we were dismissed after the colours had been marched off. Overall it was an amazing experience and it was an honour to have the privilege to attend this prestigious occasion. The day had a fantastic atmosphere with hundreds of Scouts celebrating their achievements We would like to thank Lowestoft Sixth Form College for helping us to complete the award by providing the opportunity to complete the Gold Duke of Edinburghs Award.
