REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER RUNNING FOR A POSITION ON THE AMNESTY COMMITTEE 1) Its lots of fun! Ive really enjoyed all of our different campaigns and being creative in terms of thinking of campaign ideas and event planning 2) You find out lots! You dont need to be an expert on human rights or politics to apply just lots of enthusiasm and desire to do some good in the world. Ive found out so much fascinating information that you wouldnt ever touch on in your politics/law/history lectures such as the issue of forced organ harvesting in China and genocide in Sri Lanka. 3) It looks great on your CV. Prospective employers are looking for evidence of teamwork, leadership, organisation and team work and being part of a committee is a fantastic way to do this. The best part is that you can choose how much control you would like over events and campaigns, you can use ideas sent by Amnesty or be as creative as you like 4) You get to meet lots of interesting people. In this year alone, weve met people from China and been interviewed by a Chinese newspaper and met Guardian journalist Iain Cobain. You can also go to the two annual Amnesty events held in London and meet with other Amnesty societies and hear from some inspiring speakers.
