RECAP--Use of sheep as weed control in a Peony Field. 1. Dogs & predators are an issue (discovered yesterday) 2. They worked exceptionally well for the intended purpose. The trick is to have an adequate number to keep ahead of the weeds w/o overgrazing 3. They do not eat Peonies, thistles or ferns. They love other weeds but the orchard grass was something to nibble on as they went to a different area 4. They need a place, preferably shade and/or shelter, to lie down. 5. Their manure is high in nitrogen so care would be needed on a long term basis if you are doing cut flowers 6. They drink very little water 7. They require care: worming, hooves need trimmed, shearing in spring, etc but, since these 5 were borrowed we didnt have to deal with those care issues
