RECIPE Make your own hummus! Prepp 1 bag dry chick peas. Add about three times the amount of water to the beans and let this soak overnight. Drain the water away. Cook the beans for a few hours (they are done when the outer most layer starts peeling off). Drain the water and let stand to cool down. You can also use canned beans, with about half of the liquid drained away. Mix the following in a blender: 1/2 cup olive oil Juice from one lemon 1-2 cups chick peas 1 tbspn tahini 1 clove garlic (optional) salt If it seems too thick, I add almond milk to make it a little thinner. It is ok if it is a little too "liquidy" at first, it will dry up a little over night. This is the most basic hummus, and then sometimes I add about a cup cilantro, or what is left when making green juice in the juicer- for vegetable hummus - or more garlic when we have a cold. When using dry chick peas, you will have lots left after making one batch of hummus, and unless you feel like making several batches, these can be used as an ingredient in salads, or soups. They are ready to use! Enjoy!
