RECITAL READINESS TIP - What if my dancer just stands there...or what if she cries? Anytime kids are involved in an activity, things become unpredictable. We just never know what mood will strike them, how they will react to a situation, or what ideas they have in their heads. The dancer who is timid and hardly moves in class may proudly dance every step on stage (weve seen this one!!). And the dancer who is a ham in class may stand there mystified on stage and never move (weve seen this, too!). Some even find a sequin on the floor that grabs there attention the whole time theyre on stage! The thing to remember is that the stage performance (though it may seem wildly important and HUGE to us), is just a fraction of the dance season as a whole. Your dancer has learned to be in a class with other kids, follow instructions, improve memorization skills, increase dexterity, hone fine motor skills, work as a team, keep a commitment...and SO MUCH MORE! Praise her, and encourage her! Tell her how brave she is! There is always value in the experience. Never miss a chance to dance!
