RECOGNIZING THE ALTAR THAT IS AGAINST YOU The Spiritual Dinner Table 1Kings 18:1-38 Have you taken time to study how people worship the divine beings? Whether Christians or pagans, there is a particular place where they offer sacrifices. An altar could be described as a place where animals are slaughtered for sacrifices. It is a spiritual dinner table where food are offered to the spirits. It is a place where contact is made with the spirit world, and it could be a good or bad spirit. It is a place of spiritual fellowship with the spiritual world. It is a place where covenants are made with spiritual powers. It is a place of deliberation, decision and action whether negative or postive. The point I want to establish is that, if a sacrifice is offered at a wrong place,the spirit do not recognize it. In 2 Samuel 24, when the angel of death was destroying the people,prophet Gad told David, the only place to offer the sacrifices and get result is at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. This was also the reason why Jeroboam was punished by God, He stopped the people from going to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices, he then built an altar in Bethel and Dan 1Kings 12:26-33. In Genesis 22, when God wanted Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice, God showed him a mountain in Moriah where the sacrifices was to be offered. In Numbers 23:1- Balaam demanded that (7) seven altars be built before he can consult God. The local people understand this very well, that is why you find in many communities,there is a place for the worship of their gods. Some of these places include: Tree altars; this include Iroko tree pawpaw tree, banana tree osho tree etc. Have you notice that there are some trees where people offer sacrifices? Some of these trees have other trees around them making it a forest. This is what is called a forest altar. Many communities have river altars. This is a place where the worshippers of river demons meet with their gods. In some of these altars, one would find images representing a person or animal or the spirit they worship. Have you also noticed that there are crossroad altar. These are junctions where people offer sacrifices. It could be three, four, five or T junctions. This is a meeting point for spirits from north, south, east and west. Apart from the communities altars, there are some family shrines. These are found in family compounds and represented with a tree, a corner, pot, shine etc. There is a particular altar that works for us. That is where God recognize your sacrifices. When you notice that they are always offering sacrifices in a particular place, know there is an altar there. Our duty today is to break every other altar that is standing against us in Jesus name.
