RECRUITMENT OF POLICE POSTPONED INDEFINITELY DUE TO BYE-ECTION IN MANSA The Zambia police service says it has postponed to an unknown date interviews for new recruits because there will be a by-election in Mansa. Interviews for new police officers were set for November 13, 2013 at all police provincial headquarters in the country. Zambia Police acting public relations officer Esther Mwaata-Katongo said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that the interviews have been deferred to allow the police to prepare for the November 22 Mansa Central parliamentary by-election. “This is meant to allow ourselves to prepare and deploy enough officers to effectively police the by-election before, during and after,” Mrs Katongo said. “However, police in respective divisional headquarters will be receiving application letters from 19th November, 2013 to 6th December, 2013. The date of interviews will be communicated,” she said. But why postpone in all provinces when there is only one by-election in one town? And since they had already set date of interviews, one would have thought they had shortlisted candidates but why allow more people to apply? And we thought government will stop recruiting in January? Something fishy here.
