REED COLLEGE POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT PORTLAND, OR Reed College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Dance Studies to begin Fall 2015. Salary is competitive, including benefits and support for travel and research. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and a lively program of scholarship. The position is focused in Dance Studies but will include a limited amount of studio teaching. The successful candidate would teach five courses over two semesters, including introductory dance history, junior seminar in dance studies, and three additional dance studies and studio courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. The candidate will also contribute to the development of an incipient dance major program that recognizes the cultural diversity of the field. Our pedagogy emphasizes the integration of theory and practice; the ideal candidate would seek to enhance work in the classroom with embodied activities and work in the studio with contextual study. As a small, collaborative department, members of the dance faculty contribute to the supervision of undergraduate capstone theses and production of performances and events with students and visiting artists. Candidates must have Ph.D. in hand or near completion. The expansion of Reed’s dance program will allow us new opportunities to interface with Portland’s artistic community.
