As we have just been informed by the Defence Select Committee, today 10th of March 2014 (i.e. see below email). The Defence Committee as part of their Causalities Inquiry, they will not include evidence or presentations on Gurkha Soldiers wounded in the line of duty or subjected to illnesses and diseases as a result of military service. Which left these Gurkha Veterans then with chronic health conditions and/or disabilities, for the rest of their lives. When these Gurkha Veterans, were not looked after by the MoD and/or British Army or Brigade of Gurkha’s, or Brigade of Gurkha’s Association’s and/or Gurkha Welfare Trust, basically looked after by the British Governmnet. Including wounded Gurkha soldier’s who lived and were awarded the Victoria Cross, but none of these Gurkha Veteran’s were paid one penny of War Pensions Benefits and/or Military Compensation by the British Government. Or these Gurkha Veteran’s with chronic health conditions and/or disabilities, were not provided with proper health and medical treatment or medication, let alone provided with proper welfare support, that is after being discharged from the British Army back to Nepal. We are not talk a few Gurkha veteran’s since the End of the Second World War to the Present day, we are talking hundreds if not in thousands of Gurkha veteran’s with chronic health conditions and/or disabilities, from Military Service to the British Crown. That is from the 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s including the Falklands War, 1990’s and into 2000’s, Gurkha veteran’s left with all kinds of disabilities and chronic health conditions, none of which the British Parliamentary Defence Select Committee wants evidence presented to them on it seems. According to Rowena Macdonald Defence Committee Assistant (i.e. see below email), what the Defence Committee are saying they do Not Want Evidence of Gurkha Veteran’s who have Disabilities and/or Chronic Health Conditions from Military Service, who have been Mistreated, Abused and Not Looked After by the British Government, it is somehow Politically Inconvenient for the Defence Committee!. ----- Original Message ----- From: Defence Committee To:[email protected] Sent: Mon, 10 Mar 2014 15:38:54 +0000 Subject: Defence Committee: Military Casualties inquiry Dear Mr McHughes, Thank you for your submission to the above inquiry. It has been considered by the Defence Committee but I am afraid the Committee has decided not to publish it as it does not generally publish evidence that refers to individual cases. Best wishes Rowena Macdonald, Committee Assistant (Mon-Weds), Defence Committee. What is more it is the same evening another Gurkha Veteran’s, has just telephone us for help for another Gurkha Veteran, who has just come to live in London. Who was shot while serving in Brunei, was hospitalized for weeks in a Military Hospital. Then on return to the Brigade of Gurkha’s, was just discharged out of the British Army back to Nepal on a Medical Discharge. However, once again NO War Pension’s Benefits paid, NO Military Compensation paid, NO Welfare Services or Support provided, NO Health Care or NO Medical Treatment and/or No Medication supplied by the MoD and/or British Government!. Just another Gurkha Veteran, left with Chronic Health Conditions and/or Disabilities, from and directly as a result of Military Service to the British Crown, but the Defence Select Committee members are NOT interested in individual cases?. How can the Defence Select Committee review or hold an Inquiry into Military Casualties, without taking evidence from individual’s on personal cases, we would like to know?. Or is it more a case the Defence Select Committee member’s, are NOT interested on individual’s on personal cases of JUST Gurkha Military Casualties, if there British Military Casualties they are interested. Is Defence Select Committee member’s, are NOT interested on individual’s on personal cases of Commonwealth and/or Allied Nations service personnel in HM Forces or veteran’s too?. Is it some kind of ethnic discrimination over Military Casualties, by the Defence Select Committee member’s, or is it individual ethnic discrimination against JUST Gurkha Military Casualties/Veteran’s?. Your guess is as good as mind?. Though this evening we got a second telephone call, from a Gurkha retired officer this time. On behalf of another fellow Gurkha retired Officers who is living in Nepal, who is asking about how we (i.e. Gurkha Mum & Dad) can help him and other Gurkha’s in Nepal. Claim British Military Medal’s and Awards, wrongfully not given to Gukha’s when they were serving, or since they left the British Army too. It seems it this Gurkha Captain case alone, we are talking of General Service Medal 1962 onwards, Queen’s jubilee 1977 Medal both not awarded to him, but he has an entitlement too, along with maybe four other medals. This Gurkha Captain is saying he is will to pay for his missing medal and have them posted out to him in Nepal, or someone from his family or friends will bring them from the UK to Nepal for him. Why should this Gurkha Officer, or any Gurkha Veteran pay for Medals he or they should have been awarded and given free of Charge by the MoD along ago. Again we will have the Defence Select Committee member’s and/or other Politician’s, saying they cannot look into individual or personal cases, of missing British Medal’s and Awards. When there are over 650 Gurkha Families entitled to the Queen Elizabeth Cross Medal’s, for one of their relatives being Killed-in-the-Line-of-Duty serving the British Crown, with no one in the MoD, or British Army, or Brigade of Gurkha’s, or Brigade of Gurkha’s Association’s or Gurkha Welfare Trust, helping these Nepalese and Indian Gurkha Families to receive the QEC Medal. What can living Gurkha Veteran’s or families expect to receive their missing medals, which could add up to thousands of missing medal, including United Nation’s Medal’s for UN service as in Cyprus in the 1970’s?. We can only hope the Royal British Legion, will take up the cases of the likes of one Gurkha Falklands War Hero wounded alongside the Welsh Guards. Though unlike Simon Weston and the other wounded Welsh Guardsmen, this wounded and now disabled Gurkha Falklands War Hero. He again receive it seems, NO War Pension’s Benefits paid, NO Military Compensation paid, NO Welfare Services or Support provided, NO Health Care or NO Medical Treatment and/or No Medication supplied by the MoD and/or British Government!. He also now lives in Hampshire, but Gurkha Welfare Trust, are not helping him, neither is his local Council or DWP. He lives on the Third floor of a multi block of flats owned by a private landlord, no lift just stairs and he has major disabilities. I bet Simon Weston is not forced to live like this Gurkha Veteran is, but they were wounded in the same war, as many Gurkha Causalities and British Causalities were together. They are just treated differently as Military Causalities by the MoD and British Government also it seems by the Defence Select Committee now too!. We are ashamed to be British, let alone a Military Family who has served for over 265 years the British Crown, won more medals than there are Conservative MP’s, lastly more family members have been killed and wonded than there are Liberal Democrat MP’s. For a Coalition Government to still be abusing and mistreating Gurkha Causalities and/or Gurkha Veteran’s and Families being wrongfully denied British Medal’s and Awards. Then to have the Defence Committee claim in a short email, they are NOT interested in individual cases is disgraceful!. UBIQUE, Gurkha Mum / Wendy M.Harbon (disabled and RBL Yateley & Hawley Branch member) and former Independent Councillor, Now Military and Civilian Disabled Welfare Rights Campaigner and Advisor. Gurkha Veteran’s and their families plus some civilian and military disabled people, are still requesting I be appointed to the House of Lords, as a Cross Bencher as Baroness Gurkha. David MC.Hughes (RA veteran & disabled / RBL Yateley & Hawley Branch member) known as Gurkha God Father or wheelchaircharlie39, plus JKALI (i.e. female, Gurkha Assistance Dog, GAD as well), woof, woof, too.
