REFLECTION SUNDAY By Douglas Logedi Luhangala THESE WORDS Have you ever met the people who like cursing? They curse everything, with words that sometimes come subconsciously. As I alighted from the vehicle, I stepped on his toes. “Yuck!” he cursed. This was no surprise; many young people have this tendency. Do you have to curse at any single occurrence that does not go your way? There are words that seem to make you relaxed but they make other people uncomfortable. They make people stop and think twice! They make people to judge you. “Damn…...” “Crap...…” “S**t...…” ………………and the list continues. Many other words come along and I intentionally avoid them here. Young people! Who bewitched you? You are a scintillating generation that attracts different people for different reasons. You are great, but these words turn people off. I would not even consider someone for a house help if he or she curses everything. All my utensils will be cursed by the time you leave. Does it comfort to use these words? I surely want to understand such people, and am sure many other people do. What is so good about these words that you use them often? It keeps me wondering why we memorize these words so easily yet we cannot memorize the three basic ones. “Thank you” “Sorry” “Please” “Excuse me” We have to change. We have to stop these cursing words and words that do not add value to our courtesy. Get better replacements. The tongue speaks your mind. Is that your entire mind has? Let us talk about the words that people commonly use yet they sound insulting or manner less. Join the conversation and let us change a mind. Agent of change
