REFLECTION : Today my worst fear and grave concern may just have been confirmed by the reports from USA assessment of the preparedness of the Nigeria Armed Forces vis a vis her engagement of the terrorist group in the North-East.........WHAT TYPE OF MILITARY DO YOU COMMAND AS THE C-IN-C ? Ummmmmmmmmmm ! Still in denial as a people ! Nigeria Nakedness keeps being exposed and all i can say is THANK GOD its happening NOW not later; If you dont have a military; you dont have a nation......... T. Nammor. Caxton Fatanmi WROTE.....................Tony Nammor. My brother, please those running the show must and should know what they are doing. Take a look at the film at the sight of the conflict in the northeast when it is shown on TV. Look at the paucity of helicopters flying in the air. Look at the near absence of tanks. Nigeria was ranked the 47th nation in military terms in the world and 5th in Africa. But from the operational side of things it has not reflected. Why are we still running our air backbone on Alpha jets ? Too old a technology ! Why are we so slow to change and re-tool our armed forces properly ? Where is the Nigerian Air Force in the air in this struggle ? Thin in the air is my observation ! In 2014, we should have had reconnaisance capable aircrafts; we ought to have several drones. What happened to Thermal Imaging and Satellite capabilitiy-enhanced imagery. To restructure the Air Force would entail a Doctrine and an Alliance. We would need maintenance and training. Is Nigeria telling us that all these unemployed graduates could not have been gainfully employed and trained (those that did science/engineering-based courses, priority). And perish those mad concept of Federal Character and zoning in these regards. Only the best and brightest needed ! Instead, Nigerian elites turned themsleves to private jet toy collectors, while their national air force is a joke ! Of what use today is a President with 11 aircrafts in his fleet when Americans have to come and help us search for a paltry 276 of our citizens out of a population of 170 million + ? We, either must chose to be serious or remain an Owambe chop-i-chop pepper soup military country. Is there anyone who is watching the battle raging in Syria. Take a look and see the Syrian Military at work. Look at the array of equipments - the up-to-date aircrafts; jet fighters; helicopters; missiles et.cetera. Syria does not have our kind of wealth. ? Yes, they have a strategic geopolitical alliance with Russia. And they are facing the external threat well; because they have a national military doctrine, their military has shown how disciplined they are in the face of all the onslaughts. For the uninitiated, Syria is majority Sunni. The government base is Alawite (Shia). In spite of most officers being Sunnis, the unity of Syria is ingrained in the soul of the military. Officers and the rank and file are fighting for Syria; not for Sunni or Shia islam. That is a Disciplined Military ! My people, a lot is wrong with our country. The time to start rectifying these open crevices is now : next time may be too late ! We must now start asking questions of our leaders on how and where the huge Budged for Defense was spent. What is the Procurement Process. What Audits are done on Value For Money criteria. What is the level of corruption in the military. How do we close the loopholes. All these are serious questions that must be answered !
