REFUGEE WEEK EVENTS CALENDAR The theme for Refugee Week this year is Restoring Hope. Thankyou to the new and established communities and groups of Newcastle who came together to organise such an amazing line up of events. Please see attached poster and listing below. Hope you can make it to one or some or all the events!! Will be lots of fun. REFUGEE WEEK EVENTS CALENDER Thursday 12 : Local People Global Game - Celebrating the football World Cup in Brazil The Big Issue & Newcastle Street Soccer host an invitational soccer game for all cultural backgrounds. 3:30-5:30pm Venue: Magic Park , cnr Young & Melbourne Rd ,Broadmeadow. Cost: Free Sunday 15 : Family Picnic - Free BBQ , African Debate Performance and Acrobatics , Sporting Activities And bring your own Picnic. 10am -3pm Venue: Jesmond Park ,Robinson Ave , Jesmond .Cost: Free Sunday 15 : Asylum Seeker Awareness Event 2-4pm - Featuring guest speakers Father Rod Bower (Gosford Anglican Church), Ian Rintoul (Refugee Action Coalition Sydney), Gleny Rae (musician and participant in Go Back Where You Came From), Kellie Tranter (Attorney, Maitland), Gary Kennedy (Secretary Newcastle Trades Hall Council), Michael Obsborne (The Greens). Venue: Meet at Anglican Cathedral. Church st. Newcastle. Thursday 19th: FREE FILM SCREENING REGAL CINEMA - Mary Meets Mohammed Tasmania’s first asylum seeker detention centre unexpectedly arrives in Mary’s local community. 6.00pm for light refreshments. 6.30pm Film Venue: Regal Movie Theatre , 4 Moore Street , Birmingham Gardens Cost: Free Thursday 19 : Author Event - Featuring Mark Isaacs , Author of “The Undesirables - Inside Nauru”. 5:30pm. Venue: Newcastle Region Library - Lovett Gallery.Laman St Cooks Hill. Cost: Free. Saturday 21 : Ladies Fun Club at Penola House - Multicultural group for ladies only. ( No boys! No Kids! ). Cost: Free Venue: Penola House. 3 Wilson St. Mayfield. Sunday 22 : Divercity Festival & Picnic Newcastle Museum. 10am-3pm.
