REMARKS BY THE ACTING MINISTER FOR PRESIDENTIAL AFFAIRS AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, THE HONOURABLE SHAW KGATHI, AT THE HANDOVER OF DONATED CHAIRS TO H.E. THE PRESIDENTS CHARITY FUND I am pleased to have this opportunity to join you all this afternoon. Today’s generous gift of 3,432 chairs, which shall be distributed to diKgotla across our country, will provide comfort and dignity to many of our senior citizens in the months and years to come. To some this and other donations may appear to be modest gestures, but truly they are not. Besides being a genuine response by members of the community to genuine community needs, each new donation adds to the accumulated outpouring of good will and deeds that are having a positive impact on our collective social wellbeing. In recent years the response of individuals and organisations to His Excellency he President’s philanthropic appeal for those of us who are relatively privileged to extend a helping hand to those in greater need has indeed been overwhelming. Hardly a week now goes by in which we do not find cause to celebrate various charitable initiatives. The cumulative impact of this growing generosity can be seen in communities across the country. This is a welcome trend that should continue to carry us forward as a proud as well as compassionate nation of givers, as well as receivers; for as we all know “blessed in the hand that giveth.” It is in this context that I am indeed humbled to stand here, on behalf of His Excellency as well as my own behalf, to express my appreciation to A & T Associates Accountants, auditors and Company Secretaries, represented by Mr. Mohamed Tariq, along with the Honorary Consul of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Chula Dahanayake, for making this event possible; along with the twenty-seven (27) additional corporate and institutional contributors whom they also mobilized. We hope and believe that your noble example will further encourage others. Let me, therefore without further ado thank you all once more and wish you all the best. Thank you and good afternoon!
