REMEDIES TO RHAMU INTER-ETHNIC FEUD Too many a times we have clogged our heart with ethnic clots.Many of our reactions are emotional grenades that blast anything and everything in its vicinity.Honestly speaking,me thinks we need the following approaches in returning Rhamu to its pre-war image. First and foremost,lets do away with involvement of leaders from other regions from both clans.Non-Manderan Gharres and Degodias should withdraw from any peace initiatives and let the locals sort their differences amicably using the local mechanism.This is under the slogan Mandera solutions for Mandera problems.The likes of Hon Aden Wehliye Keynan should honourably disassociate themselves and let the locals engage in dialogue. Secondly,it is abhorrent to tie peace to political seats that comes and goes with tyranny of numbers.Must we be drawing swords every time one of us lose?No! Lets accept that politics has its time and that with its dynamic turns,we can choreograph plans to recapture the seat through peaceful democratic process devoid of bloodshed.On this,lets forget who won and who lost memories that evokes bitter reactions. Thirdly,our Degodia brothers should recognise that Governor Cpt Ali Ibrahim,Hon Sen Hajj Billow Aden Kerrow,Hon Aden Mohamed Noor and Hon Fathia Hajj Mahboub are leaders of Mandera county and not Gharre leaders.They are leaders to any breathing soul in Mandera.Lets stop pledging allegiance to leaders from other counties.Because,how else can we ever listen to them if in the first place you dont recognise their authorities?I always view Hon Ahmed Abdullahi Jir as a leader for the people of Wajir,not as a Degodia governor.Lets all cultivate that good mentality of viewing them as our leaders and not as ethnic Messiahs. Fourth,we need sincere approach and honest brokers.In this,I propose elders and political leaders from a neutral clan like our Ogaden brothers.We dont need temporary cease fire,we need permanent peaceful co-existence and proper mechanisms in place to deter future recurrent of such tragedies. Finally,compensation and resettlement of IDPs from both sides with guarantee of their security and wellbeing.The present of these innocent victims of circumstance is a constant scar that will always remind us our ugly past.So they should moved to their former dwellings and compensated commensurately.
