REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER: Snyder raised taxes on all of us so that his wealthy corporate cronies could pay far less each year. Apparently that wasnt enough for some of them such as Snyder administration official Richard Baird who cheated on his taxes. Baird didn’t. He claimed both tax deductions — until he got caught. By paying fewer taxes than he legally owed to Bath Township and Clinton County, Baird forced his neighbors to pay more for police, fire, roads, schools and other services. The story came to light after Baird ran for precinct delegate to a Republican Party convention. His GOP opponents questioned whether he was really a Michigan resident. (Until a few days ago, Baird was also registered to vote in both places — a possible case of voter fraud.) When news media accounts revealed Baird’s tax dodge, he tried to quiet the story by claiming it was “inadvertent,” quickly paying $16,700 in back taxes. This incident deserves as much noise as possible. It’s quite a stretch to believe that Baird — who is a certified public accountant by training and a former executive at one of the nation’s top accounting firms — filed for a double tax exemption by accident. freep/article/20140830/OPINION05/308300029/rick-snyder
