REMEMBER THE LADY WHO ASKED ME MY ROLE MODEL?? WELL HERE IS THE ANSWER: This young beautiful lady walks to me after class and asks me: who is your role model? That is the hardest questions have heard from a student outside class. Hard since probably its role models not one as I wouldnt not like to subscribe to hero worship. Difficult because I keep on replacing them as time demands. What if I say my role model is Autum Ithimb. And the fact is that you can become your own role model. Let me use the title of a book to capture the fact that success in life is about the individual, developing the Psychology of winning. The following quotes further explain this fact: Quotes: Im trying to be original Im trying to be unique; I dont want to follow people I want them to follow me. I think people should have a mentor and a role model, but that they shouldnt take one persons opinion to be what we call final assessment or judgment about how life is supposed to be. Winning isn’t just luck. You need a programmed mindset to become a champion. “Change the changeable, accept the unchangeable, and remove yourself from the unacceptable.” “Virtually nothing on earth can stop a person with a positive attitude who has his goal clearly in sight.” “If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you wont, you most assuredly wont. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.” “Get excited and enthusiastic about your own dream. This excitement is like a forest fire – you can smell it, taste it, and see it from a mile away” Remember the saying that you are what you read and the people who surround you. I strongly believe in reading motivational articles not necessarily books. I also believe in having friends who will increase my positive energy. I like to fill myself with positive energy. I have a few inspirational people whose speeches and stories are available on the internet: JF Kennedy, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Bill Clinton and Sir Alex Ferguson. In conclusion, I believe for someone to be successful, you have to develop the psychology of winning! you have to follow a strategic plan that you have set for yourself. It’s better if written down and operationalised with an implementation matrix/action plan. Importantly inspire and be inspired by other people as well. Hope this answers you Wambui.
