REMEMBER THE SOLIDER: There are few professions that cause one’s life to be consistently be put in peril. And no matter how dangerous a job may be, no one signs up thinking that their physical death can be a consequence of the job. This is where the soldier differs. He or she comes into this career with a high purpose in heart. They enlist having already digested the nature of sacrificial service. And devoid of selfishness they accept this reality buoyed by their devotion to the greater good. As we mark this Memorial Day Weekend, we honor the men and women who have died in service to our great nation because they have defended with their lives the freedom we now enjoy. Their blood, sweat, and tears have watered the seeds planted in the soil in this republic, ever rejuvenating the trees of liberty which are ripe with our corporate and individual rights. Let us never forget that our democracy is borne by toil and sacrifice. It is a precious commodity. And since we enjoy democracy and live to the fullest the freedom that is our birthright as citizens, we should not only celebrate the fallen on this day but throughout the year. As we visit the ballot box and engage in the political process, remember the soldier. As we speak our minds in public, celebrate the fallen. As we demand more of our leaders, recall their sacrifice. As we attend our places of worship or as we choose to attend no place at all, understand that this ability was purchased and is protected by courageous souls. These men and women are of different birth places and of varying ages and backgrounds. But in common, they are our protectors, our defenders, and the very ones who make the promises of America the reality of American life. Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you and yours. Let’s remember to celebrate these courageous men and women, past and present.
