REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST A very distinguished, - TopicsExpress

REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST A very distinguished, much-loved, old gentleman, possibly not long for this world (although we don’t want to say that, as it would be in bad taste, although 24-hour sick-bed guessing games are obviously in VERY GOOD TASTE, just ask the um Mandela family), has been released from hospital. We are showing you this LIVE (and of course, Mr Mandela is still very much ALIVE, although his condition is CRITICAL, and sometimes even UNSTABLE, but that doesn’t mean he is going to......sorry) He has been taken in a para-medical vehicle (something like an ambulance, probably, not a helicopter or space ship and there will have been medical personnel with Mr Mandela for the ride) for the journey from Pretoria, which is about 45 miles by road back to his home in the LEAFY suburbs, where he has a house. At his newly remodelled home, we have been told, he will receive the same medical treatment as he did in hospital, as opposed to being treated by trainee plumbers and a witch-doctor. His three-month period in hospital was his longest stay in hospital since his release from prison in 1990. If he should go back into hospital, which given he is 95 (he recently celebrated his birthday and smiled, although he did not have any ice-cream and jelly, according to hospital sources) and not in the best of health, with lung problems and just being quite oil really.. And we (that means me and dozens of other correspondents, plus some very bored people in the studio, who should be covering other stories in Africa) will be filing lots of fairly anodyne interviews on all this and borrowing medical dictionaries. And here are some photos of the CONVOY in which Mr Mandela was taken home in the LEAFY suburbs, again confirming that he was not FLOWN home. *A place for sick people who go for treatment by people like doctors and hospitals. Mr Mandela’s hospital is probably very good, although they are not always friendly to journalists, who can be a bit intrusive at times and basically want to know: “is he going to die soon, because our bosses have to do a lot of planning with budgets and things?”
