REMEMBERING GRANDMA: Mrs Alice Johnson (19??-1998). I remember the night that my grandma was taken away from me.I remember what she did to me the night before her death. It was in the middle of the night and she came to check on me,I had wet the bed,and she cleaned the sheets, she cleaned me all up and she put me in her bed and I started to cry, really hard, she said Its okay Uwemedimo, its okay, I have been crying too,but dont wet this bed because i have to sleep here tooand we laughed, and we kept laughing until I fell asleep again. When I woke up the next morning, she wasnt just my grandmother anymore, I saw that forlorn look my mother wears whenever there is trouble, I saw my uncle come so early, It appears everyone was crying, even Aunt Mercy who I have been seeing as very strong. Well! I am not 9 years old anymore, I am not going to wet the bed again, but I will remember that night and everything grandma has ever done for me.I remember her favourite phrase ,which she uses at the slightest wrong doings Its a pity.I remember the big crayfish(Shrimp) grandma gave me while spending an holiday with her in the village, which became a kind of ritual for her during each preparation for cooking. Mama,I remember you,you were the best grandma on earth, Mummy and Daddy remember you,Iniobong, Owoidoho, Utitofon can never forget you,Ofonime,Enyekeme and Inyene were not born that time, but they cherish your photograph, your radiating beauty, that rare gap tooth, they say they miss you.The good story of your life has formed a traditional folktale to your Great Grand Children, they adore and adopt your virtues, your Lutheran. Church Hymnary which was your greatest companion has been kept in the Family archive as one of its most valuable inheritance and treasure. Valentine, your first Great Grand Child, came three years after your demise, now,you have three Great Grand Children. Mama! I hope you are proud? Yes! Laugh mama, the way you did before your departure, I was too young to understand, but I understand now Mama,I am laughing too,the same way I laughed that night I wet the bed.Hahahahahahahaha.
