REMEMBERING THE BLACK AND WHITE: Not sure how this will - TopicsExpress

REMEMBERING THE BLACK AND WHITE: Not sure how this will turn out - but this is a photo that hangs in my hallway, of the famous Black & White Checkered Wagon, (cute story behind that too) driven by the Glass Family for as long as I can remember. In this photo Tom Glass is driving. Now it is driven by his son Jason. My dad (Jim) and Ron Glass (Jasons grandfather) grew up together and along with Wilf Carter (the country western singer of years gone by & who was an outrider before that) worked in the summer breaking horses together. Ron was the second generation driver - the first was Jasons great grandfather Tom Lauder (although he never drove the Black & White) - he competed in the very first Stampede in 1912 & drove & won in his first CS Chuckwagon race in 1924. When I was little I got to spend time in the barns every night after the races with my parents, sitting with Ron Glass & his family. I usually ended up falling asleep on the bails of straw. I have cheered for this wagon all my life. This year it has the distinction of winning the Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction with the highest bid of $170,000 by MJs Water Hauling, ending a 22 year sponsorship of Shaw GMC. Wishing Jason Glass all the best in the 2014 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby....
