REMINDER: Raymore’s next quarterly blood drive to benefit the Community Blood Center is scheduled for 12:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at Foxwood Springs’ Holmes Hall. Co-sponsored by the City and the Foxwood Springs Residents’ Association, this event coincides with the CBC’s 20th annual Battle for Blood, a friendly competition between metro area police and fire departments. All registered donors of this event will be entered into a drawing for a Walt Disney World vacation for four, and donors will be able to designate their gift of blood as a vote toward either the police officers or firefighters in the competition. According to event organizers, blood donations traditionally drop by more than 20% during the summer months, which is usually a time of increased hospital usage. At Raymore’s spring blood drive, the event took in 31 units of blood from 33 registered participants, exceeding the 28-unit goal. Whole blood donors are required to be at least 16-years-old, weigh a minimum of 115 pounds and provide a valid photo I.D. Repeat donors must wait eight weeks between whole blood donations and 16 weeks between double red cell donations. This latter donation method is performed through an ALYX machine and is equivalent to two whole blood donations. Anyone interested in donating at this drive should preregister online at savealifenow.org and use sponsor code “raymorecomm.” Walk-in donors also accepted.
