REMY AKA DOC UPDATE: Wow, what a long day! Rem, of course, was a superstar (hes such a good patient). And the verdict after his scan is..... surgery tomorrow at 1:30P. Dr. Garcia (who is FABULOUS) feels hes an excellent candidate for the ligament snip in 5 places along his back (between withers and hip). It was actually worse than what the last set of xrays led him to believe. Not only are 5 areas of his spines affected, the bone scan also revealed an additional 3-4 hot spots between the vertebrae. (That will have to be dealt with seperately, after he recouperates from tomorrows surgery.) So- the plan is, hell have the ligaments between 5 spines cut tomorrow. Rehab will be about 8 weeks. After that, and assuming all goes as planned, hell go back for a series of injections into the 3-4 vertebrae that are also causing trouble. The hope is that the injections will be a one-time thing and that, by that point, the cycle that caused the pain and inflammation will have been broken and he can then move on to a full recovery. Total rehab will be roughly 10 weeks. Its going to be a very long, intense process and Im terrified of messing it up! Dr. Garcia said exactly the right thing at the right time. Practically in tears, I said to him I hate to put him through all of this and his reply was but this is going to be a lot easier on him than having you try to put a saddle on him again. Wish him luck tomorrow, I pray this is the right thing to do. Even if I never ride him again thats okay, so long as this brings and end to his pain and suffering.
