REO Speedwagon continues to Keep Pushin’ at the Washington State - TopicsExpress

REO Speedwagon continues to Keep Pushin’ at the Washington State Fair Formed in 1967, signed in 1971 and fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagonhas, for decades, been a confounding blend of consistency and change. The five legendary rockers hailing from Champaign, Illinois took to the stage at the Washington State Fair on Sept 9th as one of their many stops during their epic co-headlining tour with Chicago. Cronin, complete with a set of crutches and cast on leg, got the crowd fired up as he took a seat in front of his mic saying, despite his recent injury, “There was no way we were going to cancel this show”. The band, once all set on stage, wasted little time jumping straight into a great live rendition of “Don’t Let Him Go“. It’s was immediately made certain to me why Cronin and gang have been able to continue touring and do so successfully for decades… They sounded great. The crowd erupted as the band jumped into their 3 song of the set as they heard that very familiar “Heard from a friend who”. “Take it on the Run” , one of the biggest hits recorded by the band, quickly turned into a sing-a-long session. The thousands on hand took the reigns on the chorus as Cronin yelled out “You sing it!”. It was very apparent that Cronin and crew love what they do and were having the time of their lives on the stage. They have this ability to bring the audience into the show, to make them a part of it through their music and storytelling between songs. It was only a matter of time before the tempo slowed and, arguably, the most iconic REO Speedwagon song was played. “Can’t fight this feeling“, mid set, brought the crowd to its feet and in taking a look around all you could see were cell phones waiving in the air and couples slow dancing in the aisles. The night went on with a mixture of classic REO Speedwagonbut also included a new song. Preluding “Whipping Boy” was a passionate speech by Cronin about bullying, personal responsibility and standing up for yourself. seattlesoundlive/featured-articles/reo-speedwagon-continues-to-keep-pushin-at-the-washington-state-fair/
